Okay, perhaps I exaggerate, but the amount of static electricity I am producing has to have enough power to end the life of a small yet vile human being. No joke. Every time I stand up the air around me crackles and makes me feel like Storm from X-Men sans the sassy white hair and horrible accent Halle Berry decided wasn’t necessary past the first movie:
Aside from spraying myself in Static Guard, which would be both expensive and absolutely ridiculous I am looking for any solutions to my problem and am open to any and all suggestions.

Installing a small humidifier under your desk would dramatically offset the static electricity.
I hate that..heres what you do.. before toughing anything metal.. touch something glass, or wood THEN the static is discharged.. no shock.
Also, while you are getting out of your car (provided you are in snow/ice country) hold onto your car door WHILE getting out.. no shock
These tricks work for me.. unless, of course you have an evil co-worker with rubber soles and a juvenile sense of humor like me)
I concur with the humidifier. Or, for a prettier option, get a couple vases, fill with river rocks, marbles, fake flowers (or real!) and add water. This natural humidifier will help get some moisture into the air.
My office chair has a squeak that is roughly 110 decibels every time I breathe. I'd ask the facilities department to come look at it, but attracting any attention to yourself in a stretch of layoffs is bad form.
So, I'll just hold my breath.
Happens all the time in our office. Even if you touch someone else.... now the hey-we-got-a-spark-between-us has just gotten old.....
I'll try the humidifier too.
